The following informational message was sent to Monrovia residents from the MPOA's president.
"Hello, this is Monrovia Police Officer's Association President, Phil Nelson with a very important message & to ask for you help.
As you know there's a crisis in the City of Monrovia & your Police Officer's need your help to make public safety a priority.
The Police Officer's Association has requested the resources to make our city more secure but the City Council has ignored those requests. The result - 15 of our experienced officers have left the department & currently we are 12 Officer's short causing a shortage of 1/3 of our patrol officers! Our ability to protect the community has reached a critical juncture & is at its breaking point.
In fact, violent crime has increased so much that the City has had to call in police from other cities to patrol our neighborhoods. We don't have the resources to recruit & retain experienced Police Officers.
Please help us make public safety a priority again. The time for action is now.
Please contact the Mayor & City Council & ask them to keep their promise to make public safety their top priority.
Call City Hall at (626) 932-5550 today & make your voice heard or attend your next city council meeting on March 18th. Together, we can make Monrovia an even better place to live.
Thank you for your help & you can always count on the dedicated men & women in the Monrovia Police Department."
